How your course plays

Back to the sample desk A sample, with made-up numbers
This is a sample. The course and every number on this page are made up. On your own desk, these come from the rounds leagues play and score at your course, all leagues together, and they fill in as rounds are finished.

Each number says how many cards or groups it is based on. A golfer's name is never shown here, and a number is held back until enough rounds stand behind it.

Your pace policy

Your course sets these two numbers itself. Every league that plays there uses them for the pace line on its scorecards, and the desk uses them on a day a league plays.

Records your course holds

A club championship, a course record from years ago: a course lists its own. They are shown beside the figures worked out from league rounds, and never mixed into them.

  • 68 Women's course record, 2014
  • 63 Men's course record, 2009

How each hole plays

Average is strokes over par for each golfer on the hole. Stroke index is the one printed on your card.

Holes that play away from their stroke index
  • Hole 7 has stroke index 17 and plays 3rd to 4th hardest of 18, so it plays harder than its index says.
  • Hole 14 has stroke index 4 and plays 15th to 16th hardest of 18, so it plays easier than its index says.

How we compare: we rank the holes two ways, by the average score and by how much harder each hole is for the higher handicaps than for the lower ones. We name a hole only when both ways put it at least 3 places from its stroke index, on the same side. This is a measure of how the holes played for these golfers. It is not a course rating.

Pace by hole

From 62 groups in the last 14 rounds. The guide is the common one for a group of four: 13 minutes for a par 3, 15 for a par 4 and 17 for a par 5. A hole's time runs from when the group finished the hole before it, so the first hole each group plays and the hole after the halfway stop are left out.

Where groups lose the most time Hole 7 (+4 min), Hole 12 (+4 min), Hole 15 (+3 min).
